‘5:48PM’ appears contained, fixed. Yet when the environment changes ‘5:48PM’ moves. It reflects time by illuminating, blinking, shimmering. The surface appears kinetic, demonstrates depth by offering a shifting and sensory experience. Mirroring an inquiry into materiality - “paints” unpredictable behaviour, and the substance of light.
This fluctuation is not driven simply by the play of light but also on the viewer’s perspective. Any reflections are transient despite the solidity of its form. It is this impermanence and fluidity that I am pursuing, through exploration of the perceptual phenomenon of light and the potentialities of colour as pure sensation.

Her works form an ongoing inquiry into the materiality of paint and the fundamentality of painting itself, colour and medium. The purity of medium, colour, form, and the experience of colour are the essence of O’Neill’s abstract approach.
