Hollie O’Neill is an Auckland-based artist recognised for her pioneering use of epoxy resin within contemporary New Zealand painting. Among the earliest practitioners to adopt the medium, she has helped to expand its legitimacy and influence across the national art scene. O’Neill is a mixed-media artist whose practice is unified by an investigation of luminosity, colour and form. In series such as Solar Seduction and Solar Verticals, she deploys pigment and resin on aluminium and mirrored surfaces to create layered, light-responsive compositions that shift with the viewer’s perspective. Her NZ Animal Collection offers a complementary exploration of symbolism and presence, presenting native wildlife with a contemplative, almost spiritual resonance. A full-time artist since 2002, O’Neill’s work has been recognised nationally, including finalist status in the NZ Painting and Printmaking Award, the Parkin Drawing Prize, and the Academy Prize for Visual Art. Her works are held in significant collections, including The Arts House Trust Collection. |
